Australian Government announces new VET Loans Scheme for 2017

The Federal Minister for Education and Training, Simon Birmingham, has announced changes to the Vocational Education and Training student loans program to take effect in January 2017 (subject to the passage of legislation).

Under the new scheme, new VET FEE-HELP loans will close off at the end of 2016 to be replaced by a Student VET Loans program on January 1, 2017. The Student VET Loans program will only apply to eligible courses. New student engagement requirements will also come into effect from mid-2017.

All private VET FEEā€‘HELP providers, and any new providers, will be required to apply and meet new eligibility requirements to participate in the new student loans program.
