Schools Based Apprentice of the Year and Apprentice of the Year

ASA would like to congratulate Zane Chesterfield and Karyn Downs who were winners at the recent Southern & South Western Sydney Regional Training Awards.  Zane was acknowledged as the Schools Based Apprentice of the Year and Karyn won Apprentice of the Year.

Zane is a courageous young man who at one time considered dropping out of school.  That was until he had the opportunity to complete a school based apprenticeship program through his school, Trinity Grammar.  Zane is currently completing a Certificate II in Construction, with Ivison Constructions and he hopes to establish his own construction company one day.  Whilst studying for his apprenticeship, Zane is able to juggle his school commitments from obtaining an ATAR to leading his school rugby team, whilst fulfilling his commitments on an elite athlete program.

Zane is thrilled to be acknowledged for his award.  He comments, “winning this award is a huge achievement.   Not only for my hard work and sacrifices, but to be named alongside people who are driven by impressive agendas and stories is so inspiring.”  Congratulations Zane.

As an apprentice completing her Certificate III in ESI Power Systems Distribution Overhead, Karyn has faced all levels of adversity and has come through as a passionate and dedicated individual challenging stereotypes.   Karyn has become an ambassador for women everywhere looking to get into a trade.  She loves her industry and believes that the only way to learn is by being hands-on and in the thick of it. Thanks to this experience with her employer Endeavour Energy she never sees herself behind a desk again.

Congratulations Karyn, you are a passionate and inspiring role model for young women around the world.
