Meet your mentor: Empowering First Nations Apprentices and Women in Trades in WA

Introducing Raquel Hodder, our Mentor Support Officer based in the Pilbara region of WA. Raquel specialises in supporting First Nations apprentices and Women in Trades, helping them thrive in their careers and achieve long-term success.

A proud Yamatji, Noongar nyarlu (woman) with deep cultural connections from the south Whadjuk region through to the west coast of Western Australia, Raquel is grounded in her heritage and driven by a passion for community empowerment.

Through her mentoring, Raquel provides culturally safe, genuine, and supportive guidance to help apprentices and trainees build confidence, overcome challenges, and achieve success in their chosen careers.

“I’m passionate about supporting and empowering our mob through their journeys. I aim to advocate and uplift my mob and the wider community by assisting them on a pathway to success in their careers."

For Raquel, mentoring is more than a job; it’s a way to make a difference. By combining her lived experience, cultural understanding, and industry knowledge, she helps create opportunities for others to thrive in trades and beyond.
