Apprenticeship Support Australia recently partnered with Hunter New England Health to deliver a series of School-Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship (SBAT) sign-up sessions across regional north-western New South Wales, supporting young people to begin careers in healthcare close to home.
Over three days, ASA Account Manager Karen Bennet led sign-up sessions in Tamworth, Armidale, Inverell and Gunnedah, completing 46 SBAT sign-ups. Each location was supported by local ASA Industry Training Consultants, whose strong connections within their communities helped ensure students, families, and schools were well supported throughout the process.
At the same time, ASA Regional Manager Jeff Cooke led a team of Industry Training Consultants in Newcastle, completing a further 66 SBAT sign-ups at Kurri Kurri TAFE. An additional 10 SBAT sign-ups were also completed in Taree the previous week, bringing the total to 118 SBAT sign-ups across six regional locations.

The sign-up sessions were delivered in close collaboration with Nursing Managers from Hunter New England Health, Training Services representatives, and Registered Training Organisation representatives. This coordinated, place-based approach supports regional workforce planning by creating clear pathways for students to train, work, and build long-term careers within their local health services.
