Key Apprenticeship Program

The Key Apprenticeship Program (KAP) offers financial support to eligible Australian Apprentices who start or restart from 1 July 2025 in new energy and housing construction priority occupations.

What is the Key Apprenticeship Program (KAP)?

The Key Apprenticeship Program (KAP) helps build a skilled workforce by supporting more people to train for important jobs in priority industries. The KAP contains two streams:

If you're starting an apprenticeship in clean energy, this stream is here to help. You can get financial support to make it easier to stay on track, finish your training and succeed in clean energy careers.

The Clean Energy Sector includes occupations that involved:

  • Designing, developing, constructing, and operating the infrastructure for generating, storing, transmitting, and distributing energy from renewable, zero or low emissions energy sources.
  • Reducing or managing energy use.
  • Installing and maintaining the technology that uses clean energy rather than fossil fuels.

This stream is for apprentices starting out in housing and construction. It’s here to back you as you learn the skills needed to build Australia’s homes and communities.

The Housing Construction sector involves building, repairing and remodelling homes that are intended to be used as a fixed dwelling. Fixed dwellings may include, but are not limited to:

  • Houses
  • Apartments
  • Nursing homes

Who can be part of the Key Apprenticeship Program?

There are 67 occupations eligible for the KAP:

  • 37 in the New Energy Apprenticeship stream (with 9 unique to New Energy)
  • 59 in the Housing Construction stream (with 21 unique to Housing Construction)

Where an occupation falls into both the New Energy Apprenticeship stream and the Housing Construction Apprenticeship stream, you will need to nominate which sector you will be working in.
