NSW Government cuts cost of traineeships

The NSW Government will cap the cost of traineeships at $1000 as part of a reform package for vocational education and training.

More than 85 per cent of current traineeship qualifications on the NSW Skills List will be cheaper for students from 2016, with an average saving of $1128 under the reforms announced by NSW Skills Minister, John Barilaro.

“The Minister has also pledged to place 2000 school-leavers into free courses leading to apprenticeships and traineeships,” says Apprenticeship Support Australia General Manager NSW, Andrew Williams.

“Pre-apprenticeship courses are a great way for students to get a taste of vocational education before committing to an apprenticeship contract – reducing the risk of choosing something they aren’t suited to and then failing to complete their training,” Mr Williams said.

“As the school year draws to a close, I urge students considering a career in the trades to investigate how they can take advantage of these initiatives to gain sought-after skills that can pave the way to some really exciting job prospects.”
