Australian Apprentice Wellbeing Report

A supplementary report exploring apprentice wellbeing, workplace experiences and retention.

The Apprenticeship Support Australia Australian Apprentice Wellbeing Report 2026 provides a deeper exploration of one of the most significant themes emerging from our National First Year Experience Survey 2026, apprentice wellbeing.

The first year of an apprenticeship is a period of significant transition. Apprentices are developing new skills, adapting to workplace expectations, building relationships and taking their first steps towards a career. At the same time, they may be navigating financial pressures, study commitments and challenges outside the workplace.

Drawing on responses from more than 12,000 current and former Australian Apprentices, the ASA Australian Apprentice Wellbeing Report explores the relationship between apprentice wellbeing, workplace experiences and retention.

This report examines how wellbeing can influence apprenticeship outcomes. It also identifies the workplace factors that help apprentices feel supported, stay engaged and continue their training.

Our research found that apprentices who experienced sadness, anxiety or worry were 65% more likely to have considered leaving their apprenticeship, making wellbeing the strongest driver of retention risk identified in the analysis.
