Changes to Australian Apprenticeship Incentive Payments from 1 July 2026

From 1 July 2026, several Australian Apprenticeship incentive payments will increase. Find out what's changing and what it means for apprentices and employers.

From 1 July 2026, several government payments available to Australian Apprentices and employers will be updated. These changes are designed to ensure financial support keeps pace with the cost of living and remains accessible to those who need it most.

There is no action required for current recipients.

If you’re already receiving one of these payments, there’s nothing you need to do. The new rates will automatically take effect from 1 July 2026.

Australian Apprenticeship Support Loans (AASL)

Updates to the AASL for 2026–27 include:

  • Maximum loan amount: $27,048
  • Minimum repayment threshold: $69,528

These changes provide increased financial support while maintaining a fair repayment structure aligned to income.

Living Away From Home Allowance (LAFHA)

LAFHA payment rates will increase in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The new weekly rates are:

  • First 12 months from commencement: $125.52
  • Second 12 months: $94.14
  • Third 12 months: $47.07

Disability Australian Apprentice Wage Support (DAAWS)

The DAAWS payment has also increased in line with CPI:

  • $226.01 per week
  • Paid in arrears to employers of eligible apprentices with disability

This increase supports employers to continue providing inclusive employment opportunities while assisting apprentices in the workplace.
