EWIT Gala 2025: Empowering Women in Trades

On 3 October 2025, Apprenticeship Support Australia proudly sponsored the Johnny Award at the EWIT Gala at Marvel Stadium, Melbourne, where over 400 attendees celebrated individuals and organisations driving inclusion and empowering women in male-dominated trades.

On Friday, 3rd October 2025, the Empowered Women In Trades (EWIT) Gala brought together over 400 attendees at Marvel Stadium, Melbourne for an unforgettable evening celebrating inclusion, innovation and impact in the trades sector.

As a proud alliance member of EWIT Group Australia, Apprenticeship Support Australia was honoured to sponsor the Johnny Award, named after Johnny Cirelli. This award recognises individuals who empower women to see their value and potential in industries where they’ve historically been overlooked. Our commitment to workforce development and equity runs deep.

Through our Women in Trades mentoring program across NSW, WA, and VIC, we work tirelessly to guide, support and promote women apprentices entering male-dominated trades. The dedication of team members like Megan Trigg, Ashley Belteky, and Rachel Phillipson is helping reshape perceptions and create real opportunities – driving systemic change across the sector.

The Gala was an evening filled with inspiring stories, meaningful conversations and well-deserved celebrations. Huge congratulations to Melinda Davis and the entire EWIT team for delivering such a memorable event. It truly does take a village.

We also want to acknowledge the incredible efforts of our industry partners and friends:

  • Sarah Bottomley and Service Stream, recognised as double finalists for their Neurodiversity Listening Circles and School Holiday Care Program.
  • Eleanor Ostrenga, Jaki Wain and SA Power Networks, setting benchmarks for inclusive pathways and hands-on engagement.
  • Zinfra, a proud sponsor represented by Betty Hui, honoured as a Cultural Changemaker.
  • Metro Trains Melbourne, with nominees Alice Jasper and Bianca Bonner celebrated for leadership and impact.
  • Komatsu, represented by Caitlyn Hayes, finalist in the Tradie Trailblazer category.
  • North Melbourne FC and Sam McSweeney, driving pathways for women and non-binary people into trades through their Freestyle Program.

Congratulations to all nominees, winners and organisers. The future of trades is brighter, and more inclusive, because of your efforts.
