Free vehicle rego saves thousands for apprentices

New data shows Victoria’s Trade Apprentice Registration Discount scheme has supported more than 22,000 apprentices and trainees since its launch.

More than 60,000 free registrations have been issued under the scheme, saving apprentices up to $930 each year. Cumulatively, the program has helped apprentices save more than $59 million on registration costs.

The initiative supports apprentices who rely on their vehicles to get to work, training and job sites, including those who carry tools or travel overnight for work.

The program is helping to ease cost-of-living pressures while supporting the next generation of skilled workers.

This support comes on top of the Victorian Government’s upcoming rego rebate for eligible motorists.

From 1 June, other vehicle owners will be able to apply for a 20 per cent discount on registration through the Service Victoria website.

Minister for Skills and TAFE Colin Brooks said: “We want apprentices focused on building their skills and training for the jobs of the future – not worrying about the cost of car registration.”

“This is helping ease cost of living pressures while supporting the next generation of skilled workers.”
