Women working across the trades gathered at Bunnings Gladesville recently for a networking morning hosted by Apprenticeship Support Australia’s Women in Trades mentoring team in partnership with Carpentry Australia and Empowered Women in Trades.
The event brought together apprentices, mentors and industry professionals, creating an opportunity to connect, share experiences and build supportive relationships within the sector.
Networking events like this play an important role in strengthening the community of women working in trades. They provide a space to explore career pathways, exchange practical advice and hear from others who are navigating similar experiences in the industry.
Attendees had the chance to meet like-minded women, learn from industry leaders and take part in conversations about career development and opportunities across the trades sector. The morning also included lucky door prizes and informal networking, helping create a relaxed environment for participants to connect.
Apprenticeship Support Australia Women in Trades Apprentice Advisor, Erinn Johnston, highlighted the value of these events for women at all stages of their careers.
“It’s such a great opportunity to meet new people and build connections within the industry,” Johnston said.
“Events like this help people better understand the culture of the trade they’re working in while also connecting with others who share similar goals and experiences.”
“The connections made at these events can last well beyond the day itself. They might lead to mentorship opportunities, career advice or professional relationships that continue throughout an apprenticeship and into later stages of a career.”

With strong engagement from attendees, the event demonstrated the growing interest in initiatives that support women in the trades and foster stronger industry networks.
More Women in Trades events are planned in the future as part of ongoing efforts to support apprentices, build connections and encourage more women to pursue and thrive in trade careers.
