NSW fee-free apprenticeships and traineeships extended to 2027

Aspiring apprentices and trainees across New South Wales will continue to benefit from fee-free training opportunities, with the NSW Government announcing an extension of the program through to 30 June 2027.

The extension, part of the 2025–26 NSW Budget, is designed to strengthen long-term support for apprenticeships and traineeships across the state. It aims to provide greater certainty for learners, employers and training providers, while reinforcing the pipeline of skilled workers needed to drive the state’s economy.

By removing the financial burden of training fees, the program ensures that eligible NSW apprentices and trainees can continue to access free training. To qualify, learners must commence an apprenticeship or traineeship in an approved qualification listed on the NSW Skills List, with a Smart and Skilled provider, by the new deadline.

Fee-free apprenticeships and traineeships have already helped thousands of people get a start in their careers while supporting businesses in need of skilled staff. The extended funding will further embed this support into the state’s skills system over the coming years.
