QLD payroll-tax rebate a boost for apprenticeships

Queensland businesses that employ new apprentices and trainees will receive a 25 per cent payroll tax rebate, as part of the Queensland Government’s Budget released this week.

The rebate will be offered over three years on wages paid by an employer to apprentices and trainees resulting in an estimated $45 million in tax savings for business.

Apprenticeship Support Australia (ASA) Queensland General Manager, Andrew Williams, welcomed the announcement, calling it a welcome boost for business, making it easier for them to commit to hiring new apprentices and trainees.

“Payroll tax is a financial barrier for some businesses, particularly smaller enterprises, to taking on new employees,” Mr Williams said.

“A 25 per cent payroll tax rebate will break down that barrier for many organisations, opening up new job opportunities for young people that will provide them with skills for life.

“As Australia’s longest continuous provider of apprenticeship services, ASA is ready to talk to Queensland businesses that will now be in a position to employ and train some new talent, following this announcement.”
