Train now. Prepare for the future

The tourism sector is one of Australia’s leading performers, outshining many other parts of the national economy.

Tourism has become an increasingly important economic driver for the WA economy and is expected to keep experiencing significant growth. It is estimated that tourism employs 94,000 people across the state and 51% of those are in supporting industries including Food and Hospitality.

To meet future demand, WA businesses will need to be investing in people and skills now. Having trained, skilled and professional staff will be what sets businesses apart from the competition.

Upskilling valuable team members with new levels of skills and customer service standards, is driving employers to enquire more and more about training options that can assist them to remain competitive.

Apprenticeship Support Australia Manager, Lena Constantine, says “regularly hiring to recruit can be a costly exercise for employers, particularly in these industries that experience high turnover. Finding ways to retain and upskill current staff is vital for long-term growth”, she says.
There are a range of traineeships and apprenticeships tailored for the tourism and hospitality sector, allowing employers to build skills while staff are in the workplace. There are qualifications designed for the food, hospitality and tourism industries and are all nationally recognised.

Tapping into ongoing support such as mentoring and advice throughout training is also vital to ensure employers and their apprentices achieve successful outcomes.
Apprenticeship Support Australia, an Australian Apprenticeship Support Network provider, offers a range of mentoring and support options.

“Our aim is to support people through their training, so that both employers and individuals can reap the benefits of gaining nationally accredited training qualifications,” says Constantine, “we want to see people succeed”.

The tourism sector is a dynamic industry. It needs to be able to skill staff to appropriately meet the increasing expectations of customers. Apprenticeship Support Australia is proud to be able to assist employers to grow and improve their business through training.
