On 5 May 2026, the Victorian State Budget was handed down by Treasurer Jaclyn Symes and Premier Jacinta Allan.
Treasurer Symes said the Victorian economy remained resilient, underscoring jobs and investment growth in Victoria.
“Nearly 650,000 jobs have been created since the peak of the pandemic, including almost 300,000 jobs in the past three years alone. Businesses invest because Victoria is a dynamic, progressive and stable economy.” she said.
$46 million to continue Head Start: Supporting students in Years 10 to 12 to undertake school-based apprenticeships and traineeships, including targeted supports for young people engaged through the Head Start model.
$5.8 million for safer and fairer apprenticeships: Strengthening apprentice and employer support services, improving safety, lifting completion outcomes and supporting the transition to a stronger regulatory framework. This funding includes continued delivery of the Workplace Rights Apprentice Training program, an investment in ensuring apprentices understand their rights, responsibilities and protections at work. It also includes personalised support for apprentices and trainees, including women, delivered through initiatives such as the Apprentice Helpdesk.
Continued transport concessions for trade apprentices: Through the VicRoads vehicle registration discounts.
These measures signal a continued focus on early engagement through school-based pathways and practical support for apprentices.
At Apprenticeship Support Australia, we will continue working closely with employers, apprentices, schools and government to turn these investments into practical outcomes for Victoria’s workforce.
