Working alongside industry partners and educators, ASA supported both the Melbourne Girls Grammar & Melbourne Grammar School Future Pathway Expo and the Empowered Women In Trades (EWIT) Group Australia Roadshow at Killester College – two events that highlighted the growing momentum behind women entering trade careers.
These initiatives form part of ASA’s broader commitment as an alliance member of Empowered Women in Trades (EWIT), helping to elevate programs that promote diversity and inclusion across the industry.
At the Melbourne Girls Grammar & Melbourne Grammar School Future Pathway Expo, students were given the opportunity to explore a wide range of career options beyond traditional pathways.
ASA representatives connected with a highly engaged group of students, with many showing strong interest in trade careers. The presence of ‘Women in Trade’ messaging helped spark curiosity and meaningful conversations, reinforcing the idea that trades are not only viable, but rewarding long-term career options.
The event highlighted a shift in mindset among young women, with increasing openness to skills-based careers that offer strong employment outcomes and opportunities for progression.
The momentum continued at Killester College, where ASA supported the EWIT Group Australia Roadshow, working directly with 160 Year 10 students in an immersive, practical setting.
Delivered through a series of hands-on trade rotations, students were introduced to a diverse range of industries, including brick and block, electrical, plumbing, landscaping, tunnelling and drainage, and future energy skills.
These sessions were complemented by collaborative problem-solving activities, encouraging students to step outside their comfort zones, build confidence, and develop practical skills.
A standout moment of the day was the speed interviewing session, where students connected with industry professionals who shared their personal career journeys.
These authentic conversations helped bring trade pathways to life, offering relatable insights into the possibilities available.
ASA’s involvement in these programs reflects a broader focus on strengthening talent pipelines and addressing skills shortages in key industries. By supporting initiatives that engage students early, ASA is helping to reshape perceptions and broaden participation in traditionally male-dominated fields.
The success of both the expo and roadshow underscores the importance of collaboration between industry, education providers and organisations like EWIT.
Through its ongoing partnerships and program support, ASA is helping to ensure that young women across Victoria have access to the information, experiences and networks they need to make informed career decisions. Employers, educators and students can reach out to ASA for more information.
