Perfect match

A pilot employment- matching program is offering young Western Australian job seekers the opportunity to kick start their careers.

There is no one-size-fits-all way to get a job. Chamber of Commerce and Industry of WA (CCIWA) encourages young people to increase their chances of success by building their networks, getting involved in community activities and volunteering, having up-to-date CV’s on hand, and to generally be proactive when they are looking for work.

However, sometimes young people also need to be given a chance. Hence the launch of the “Give it a Go Program”.

CCIWA in conjunction with Apprenticeship Support Australia, Max Employment and the Department of Education has launched Give it a Go to connect interested young job seekers with relevant CCI member-employers.

Apprenticeship Support Australia Manager Lena Constantine says Give it a Go will hand-pick high-quality and motivated candidates for businesses.

“There are many talented young people across WA that just need someone to give them a go,” Lena says.  “This program is a fantastic opportunity for employers to gain a passionate young employee to contribute to their business.”

Candidates are encouraged to identify their area or industry of interest by completing a career quiz and job readiness test through the website Skillsroad.com.au.

All candidates are screened, tested and provided with the necessary work-ready skills to ensure they are the right fit for their chosen career and their targeted business.

“Young people bring new ideas to organisations and are eager to learn.  Giving a young person a go could be exactly what your business needs,” Lena says.

“The Give it a Go program will match young people with roles in industries where they want to work and we give them support to hit the ground running.
