WA Training Awards winners

Apprenticeship Support Australia congratulates all the winners and finalists recognised at the WA Training Awards held on 23 September.

The annual awards recognise outstanding employers, apprentices, trainees, training organisations and schools across the State.

Apprenticeship Support Australia continued its ongoing partnership with the awards, sponsoring the WA Employer of the Year category.

Congratulations to Civmec Construction & Engineering who were awarded the honour on the night. Apprenticeship Support Australia client, Laing O’Rourke Australia Construction was also acknowledged as a finalist in this division.

Apprenticeship Support Australia WA General Manager, Nathan Bentley, believes the calibre of this year’s winners spoke volumes about the world-class training culture in Western Australia.
“Amid the current economic climate in Western Australia, businesses need to be planning for what lies ahead. Employers value well-trained and skilled staff,” said Bentley. “These Awards highlight the investment businesses are making to skill development.”

“This means that as a State, we’re producing a more capable workforce to tackle the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow. All of the winners and nominees – employers and employees alike – are a reflection of that.”

Apprenticeship Support Australia supports employers across the nation through the accredited training process. A number of its clients were awarded top honours on the night. Energy Apprenticeship Group had successful apprentices in two categories. Brendon Carlson, hosted by Chevron, was named WA Apprentice of the Year, and Naomi Beath, hosted by Woodside, WA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year.

Sterling Winmar, employed by South Metropolitan Youth Link (SMYL), was named finalist in the WA School-based Apprentice of the Year category.

Award winners will go on to represent Western Australia at the 2016 Australian Training Awards to be held on Thursday 17 November in Darwin, NT.
